1st March Without a School Shooting in Almost Two Decades

It takes a worldwide pandemic to end a problem that could have been fixed years ago. For the first time since 2002, March had no mass school shootings. To prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, schools across the world moved to digital learning. Digital Learning has been happening since early March and will continue to occur until the end of the school year. For current grade school students, this is the longest time they have gone without a mass school shooting. Robert Klemko posted on Twitter, “There hasn’t been a March without a school shooting since 2002- the year most highschool seniors were born. Hillary Clinton responded to the tweet. Her tweet read, “ It shouldn’t have taken a pandemic to make this possible.” Many argue that we shouldn’t hide our kids in houses to keep them safe; instead, there should be stricter protocols for receiving guns. However, gun sales have increased since quarantine began. Store managers believe it is because people want to be protected while quarantined. Gun Safety Advocates argue that with more people keeping guns at home, students could be at risk. The big question here is, when the pandemic is over, will school shootings increase?
