Georgia High School Sports starts conditioning for Fall season

High School athletes in Georgia can start conditioning with restrictions on June 8th.

As Georgia continued to lift stay at home orders, many student-athletes wondered when they could start conditioning. Georgia High School Association executive director, Robin Hines allowed all sports teams to start conditioning. Robin Hines requires all sports teams to follow specific rules.

These rules consist of staying six feet apart at all times and wiping down weights after a single-use. Twenty athletes are allowed on the court or field at a time, with the supervision of one coach. Athletes can not use balls, bats, or scrimmage against each other. Athletes are also prohibited from using locker rooms and showers.

Schools are allowed to take extra precaution; however, they can not break the rules Robin Hines have ordered. Hines also recommends students to wear a mask when conditioning, but it is up to the schools to decide if they want to implement that rule.

Some school districts think that June 1st is too close to Memorial Weekend. They believe that some student-athletes are headed to beaches and can contact the virus without showing any symptoms, causing other athletes and coaches to get the virus.

School districts came up with another date, June 8th. Hines is fine with both dates as long as schools are keeping the health of the athletes a priority.
